Six Family Costumes For Halloween

Halloween might seem far away now, but it’s always best to think about your costumes sooner than later instead of scrambling to get a decent homemade Batman costume together. Regardless of your child’s preferences, it’s always fun to try to get the family involved. The more the merrier, and Halloween opens up a lot of opportunities for family fun, especially with themed costumes.

If you’re not the creative type or you don’t have the time to put a lot of effort into making a bunch of costumes, don’t worry. Zurchers Party Costume & Wedding Store has the perfect list of ideas to get you thinking, so you can plan on the greatest family Halloween costume ever.

Here are six places to start:

1.Throwback theme

Classic stories and characters are ones that tend to get the most laughs, so it’s always a good place to start. If you grew up playing Super Mario, let your kids in on the fun by going as different characters from the video game. This works great for younger families with both sons and daughters, as there are plenty of characters to choose from Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and more. Perhaps video games aren’t your style, but you can always go with a cute “The Wizard of Oz” theme, with plenty of playful characters to choose from. Other ideas include “The Flintstones” and “The Cat in the Hat,” etc.

2. Baby and Me

Babies probably don’t love being dressed up in hot and scratchy costumes. Still, having a baby on your hip or in the carrier can offer creative license. Try these baby and me costumes to save the day:

Batman and Robin (the baby can be either one)

Thing 1 and Thing 2

“Despicable Me” minions

Baby King Kong and the Empire State Building (baby in carrier)

Popeye, Olive Oyl and the baby as a can of spinach

Most of the above options let your baby remain comfortable while making an adorable addition to your family’s themed costume.

3. Easy peasy

Most of the time, parents get overwhelmed thinking about getting everyone a costume that fits well with the theme. But there are definitely some easy costumes out there that let everyone wear basically the same outfit to prevent fights. Dress up as pirates for a fun and easy costume. Crayons are another great costume idea for families of any size. If you’re really short on time, you can always dress up as “Where’s Waldo?”, mummies or ghosts to keep everyone’s costume the same.

4. Chillin’ villains

Everyone loves a hero, but sometimes we forget how fun it is to be the bad guy. If your kids are bored and complaining that they have no idea what to be for Halloween this year, you can always try a villain theme. It sets you apart from the crowd and lets you have a whole lot of fun in the process. Some ideas include Ursula the sea witch, Batman villains, Gru from "Despicable Me"  or Voldemort.

5. Blockbuster hits

Characters from a recent blockbuster film always are recognizable and fun for the kiddies. "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" has plenty of characters to choose from, along with the new "Alice in Wonderland" movie, "Inside Out" is also a given and an easy costume, too.

6. Family spirit

If you’re looking for a costume that unites your family and makes them excited to be part of a family costume consider dressing up as a mix of "Harry Potter " characters or “The Incredibles.” Also, if you have teenagers that are reluctant to dress up, you can always go as the Whites from “Breaking Bad.” Or even the kids from "Stranger Things."

No matter what you choose to dress up as, you can always find what you’re looking for at Zurchers Party Costume & Wedding Store.
