The flag of Honduras was adopted in 1866 based on the flag of the Federal Republic of Central America. The flag contains 3 horizontal bands, 2 blue and the center is white. The blue bands represent the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean sea, while the white represents the land between them and the peace of the people. There are 5 five-pointed stars centered in the white band in an X pattern, which symbolize the 5 nations of the former Republic Republic of Central America, and the hope the nations my form a union again.
