The flag of Greece was adopted in 1822. It consists of nine horizontal stripes alternating between blue and white. There is a blue canton in the upper-left corner containing a white cross, symbolizing Greek Orthodoxy, the established church in Greece. The blue has changed from lighter blue to darker blue as the years have gone by.
