The state flag for Wisconsin was adopted in 1863. The state seal is centered on a blue field. Above the seal is the word "Wisconsin"; below the seal is the number 1848, which was the year Wisconsin was committed into the Union. "Wisconsin" and "1848" wasn't added to the flag until 1979.
