The flag of Israel depicts a blue Star of David on a white field between 2 horizontal blue stripes. The basic design represents the "Tallit", a Jewish prayer shawl which is white with blue stripes. The blue is described as "dark sky-blue" and the shades vary slightly from flag to flag. It was adopted in 1948, 5 months after the country's establishment.
