The state flag of Ohio is designed with the colors of red, white and blue. The blue triangle at the hoist contains 17 stars (because Ohio was the 17th state) and a white circle around a red one, symbolizing not only the first letter of the state's name, but also it's nickname "the Buckeye state". The 5 red and white stripes symbolize that Ohio is one of the 5 states that made the Northwest Territory. It was adopted in 1902.
