The state flag of New Jersey contains the Great Seal of the State of New Jersey on a buff-colored background. The buff-colored background was due indirectly to George Washington, because he ordered all military uniforms to be dark blue with buff-colored facings, when they were previously only available to himself and other military officers. This was ordered by George Washington in 1779.
