The flag of Hong Kong contains a stylized, white, five petal Bauhinia blakeana in the flag's center on a red background. This design was adopted in 1990, but it was officially hoisted in 1997. The design of the flag is enshrined in Hong Kong's Basic Law, the city's constitutional document, and regulations regarding the use, prohibition of use, desecration, and manufacture of the flag are stated in the Regional Flag and Regional Emblem Ordinance.
