The flag of Germany has 3 horizontal bands of black, red and gold. This design was adopted in the early 19th century. It remained the country's national flag until 1959 when East Germany added the East German coat of arms to their variation of the flag. When the two countries were reunified in 1990, the original design was restored as Germany's national flag.
