The flag of Bulgaria is a tricolor flag with 3 horizontal bands: white on top, green in the middle with red on the bottom. The flag was first adopted in 1878 after Bulgaria gained independence. The flag contained the state emblem when Bulgaria was the "People's Republic of Bulgaria". The flag was readopted in 1991.
