The state flag of Arizona was adopted in 1917. It consists of 13 red and weld-yellow stripes going outward from a copper colored star in the center. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 counties of Arizona, as well as Arizona's picturesque sunsets. The star represents the state's copper mining industry. The bottom half of the flag is blue, representing liberty.
