Invites
Instead of a regular gift, ask the
guests to bring a car for your child’s
train set. Open the gifts early and let
the children play with the old and new
train sets!
If your child has wooden or cardboard
blocks, the children can make their own
tracks, bridges, and tunnels for the
trains to travel on.
Décor
For instant party mood, tie bunches of
red and blue balloons around the party
room. Tape railroad signs all over the
walls.
Games and Activities
If the children are young, they will
love to “be” trains while you sing the
following rhyme. Lead the children in
acting out the words of the song.
Choo choo the big train is coming
down the track now,
Choo choo the big train is coming down
the track.
Stop, look, and listen. Stop, look, and
listen.
Choo choo the big train is coming down
the track.
(Sing to any tune your heart desires.
Trust me, they will love this!)
Decorate a gingerbread train. Buy a
kit (readily available at Christmas
time) and assemble the train ahead of
time. Think creatively and purchase a
lot of candies for decorating. Then,
stand back, give the children decorating bags filled with frosting and watch their creativity flow!
Try: black licorce for coal, Oreos
for wheels, candy sticks for smoke
stacks, miniature pretzels for railings,
and stick pretzels for wood. Great
general candies include: M&M’s,
Skittles, Neccos, gumdrops, and sugar
wafers.
More Décor
Display the decorated train for all to
admire! When the party is over, each
child can take home the engine they
decorated.
Party Eats
For a snack before cake, munch on
pretzels and juice. Put the pretzels in
individual Thomas cups and use juice
boxes. The kids will like having their
own snacks!
Party Favors
Stuff party bags with Thomas & Friends
puzzles, stickers, and pocket watches.
Also, let each child take home their
decorated train car displayed on a
Thomas plate!
