decorating ideas!
Costumes
All your guests will need their own Kung
Fu belt. Before the party, tear a white
sheet into belt-sized strips. Have lots
of permanent markers or fabric markers
available so that each child can
personalize their own belt.
Games and Entertainment
Then, it’s off to see the movie at your
local theatre. After the show. . .
Invite a teenage “kung fu master” to
safely show the kids some moves of their
own. Help the kids tie on their belts,
and they’ll feel like they’re on their
way to becoming masters themselves!
Party Eats
For part of the fun, let the children
try their hand at using chopsticks. Have a variety of
candies available to put on top of the
ice cream. Here’s the catch; they can
only eat the candies that they can pick
up using chopsticks!
Party Favors
Send the children home with a Chinese
Box filled
with chopsticks, Chinese
finger traps, and their own
fortune cookies. Send enough to
share with their brothers and sisters.
Or, make homemade fortune cookies and
personalize the fortunes for each child,
focusing on their gifts and skills. The
following recipe makes 48 cookies.
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup egg whites
1 2/3 cup sugar
1 cup flour
3/4 cup finely chopped almonds
1/2 tsp. vanilla
48 fortunes personalized on 3"x3/4"
strips of paper.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix
first three ingredients until sugar is
dissolved. Stir in remaining
ingredients, one at a time until well
blended. Drop dough by level
teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking
sheet.
Bake 10 minutes, or until edges are
golden brown. Remove cookies from baking
sheet.
Place 1 fortune in the center of
each cookie; fold cookie in half; pinch
sides together. Work quickly before
cookies cool and harden. Yum! Yum!
